American debate on Afghanistan still ongoing

The operational request for more American soldiers to be deployed to Afganistan has now been officially submitted to the Pentagon. But, it seems that there are still debates going on. Given the combination of critical factors, it is indeed difficult for the conflicting positions to be reconciled soon. In any case, the United States is a stable and mature democracy which establishes civilian authority over the armed forces. The American military is still the most powerful in the world in terms of budgetary allocation, advanced technology and force projectability.
