Obama' s presidency faces 3 major challenges

It is abundantly clear, by now, that the three major challenges facing the Obama presidency are (1) Iran, (2) financial crisis and (3) Russia. These three major challenges are also most pressing for the moment. Pogroms and terrorism apparently inspired or motivated by faiths, to be sure, still call for special attention as well as very active concerns.

Agreed on the First and Second.

The resurgent and not-friendly Russia are more of a mid term and long term issue. The US Army is bogged down in Iraq, but the Navy and Air Force aren't. There's plenty of deterrent available to any Russian threat to important US interests.
Georgia actually is not part of vital US interests, though the Russian actions there were worrying. Any Russian move against Poland, for example, would bring a serious American response. The Russian airforce would not survive a major encounter with the USAF, and they know it.

Sorry. I have rearranged (1) and (2)challenges, and also added pogroms and terrorism as special attention and active concerns.

It is not physical fighting (which is quite unlikely to happen in the short to medium run) that is crucial about the US-Russia relation but the political and phychological impacts of resurgent Russia on US-Europe relations.
