Implication of yoga ban on Mr. Chamil Wariya

While the disputes of whether God can be called Allah is still in court for a decision in Malaysia, another such controversy has arisen as to whether Muslims can practice yoga which is believed by some Islamic scholars to contain elements or traces of Hinduism. If the trend goes on, I won't be surprised that one day, people like Chamil Wariya and Dr. Mahathir would be denounced in fatwas for being 'secret Hindus'.

Hi James,

I've just learned that muslim female is forbidden from having Henna (Hindu bridal art on hand).
Experiencing mutual culture is a conveinient way to achieve unity and understanding amongst multi races and classes.

well, things like these have to be settled at this moment among muslims themselves but what i worry is that if the trend is unckecked or unlimited, the overzealous puritans would overstep their boundary and interfere with malaysian non-muslims' lifestyles and cultural choices.

James,
Money is the dirtiest piece of paper on earth. It carries millions of germs; handled by all sorts of people you can think of; cheats, robbers, the diseased, murderers, rapists, holy people, infidels, and what have you.

Any holy cow considering a ban on handling such despicable piece of paper?

I suppose its true that the original Yogic practice from India is bundled with Hindu religious beliefs. But even today, that "pure" form of Yoga remains mostly within the Hindu community in India.

The popular Yoga, which came here through the West, is a secular form, left only with physical, mental and non-religious spiritual exercises. I can't for a moment see how a follower of Any religion could be contaminated by practicing yoga.

How could exercises which calm the mind and relax the body be against any religion ?

and ringgits we use everyday pass through hands of pig breeders, pork sellers, dog owners, prostitutes, western tourists of jewish origin, tourists from china with communist membership, tourists from Shia Iran, hindus, alchoholics, celebrators of valentine's day, atheists ....should we device another set of ringgits (marked halal) to be used exclusively by muslims ?
