Chinese federation opts for "neutrality" in GE

The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia or Hua Zhong, which is normally perceived to be pro-BN, has declared "political neutrality" in the coming general election signalling rather clearly, according to seasoned observer of Chinese politics TK Lai, that "a powerful anti-BN current has emerged in the Chinese community in recent months".

One guy I know who is a prominent Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce member, and long time super-solid Barisan supporter. He's complaining bitterly that all the past support for BN now counts nought. He has not had a single successful business bid with government or government-linked companies for a whole year. Zero, zilch. All the business goes to UMNO cronies.

The once solid, unquestioning BN support from the Chinese big business community is fracturing - and its BN's own doing. UMNO, with MCA/Gerakan nodding "betul" all the way.
