Historical facts that simply can't be distorted

Ong Boon Hua @ Chin Peng (pix) was born on 21 October, 1924, in an upstair backroom of a shop lot situated at No. 36, Jalan Kampong Koh in Sitiawan town in Perak. No legalistic judgements or/and any forms of propaganda could work to change, or distort these facts of history.

If you are in power you can say it's "white" even if it's really "black".

When a court delivers a judgement that clashes with facts popularly known to the people and experts such as historians, the court discredits itself causing a crisis of confidence.

I don't think the Federal Court judges read the 189 Peace Accords first before they delivered their judgement.

Why would Chin Peng need papers to justify he is Malaysian is just beyond me - just an unlearned ordinary Malaysian ?

He is part of history & history has already acknowledged him as Malaysian - an undisputed fact until now !

true he was born in Sitiawan, Perak, in what is now Malaysia. I bet he has birth certificate to prove that fact. Perak was then under the dominion of the Sultan of Perak. If the Sultan was displeased with him, His Highness can and would "buang negeri" that person. Being the chairman of PKM since 1940's he was not likely to register his citizenship to the Persekutuan Tanah Melayu back in the 50's, when the citizenship application and registration was done back then. He missed the boat, and the Sultan might not want him as citizen in the first place.
put simply, he was, and still is 'persona non grata'.

Everyone knows that he is a Malaysian . In Sabah where the illegal are given MYCARD and allowed to applied bumiputra benefits so what? Now just ask ourselves who reserves more illegal or those born here who has lost their papers.

nooryahama: have you read the letters of the 1989 Peace Accord before you simply opine yourself ? In wartimes, loss of birth certificates or non-registration of birth were quite common. chin peng has already said that his identity papers were taken away by the police in those days. common sense suggests that production of witnesses (such as his comtemporaries or relatives) to affirm his birth in sitiawan should be sufficient.

To facilitate public discussion in the court of public opinion, I hereby reproduce the English-language 1989 Accords below:

dear sc and mat, true the agreement said as such, BUT,
the agreement said "shall"..
which still means "dengan ehsan" of those who are in the stronger position..ie Govt. true he may be just setiausaha agong, but dont you think he was the 'power behind' the chairman? after all he was the one who went to Baling to meet TAR.

and another thing, for his safety sake, there are more than enough people who are willing to kill him. considering the number of Malaysians maimed and killed during those terrorist years.

better to leave him in China.

and then, can his parent or siblings come forward please? for the purpose of the court to ascertain his origin. i know this sound silly, but facts must be cleared.

nooryahaya: your post-shifting sophistry has finally led you back to legalistic mumbo-jumbo which is meaningless in the face of historical facts and the spirit of national reconciliation.

Hi, Uncle Chin Peng,

My parents & I have read your memoirs. We were so sorry for thinking you was a 'terrorist' in the past. Now, we know you are a GREAT MAN who sacrificed so much to free our nation from the Japs & Brits. We salute you, uncle.

A great deal of intemperate words have been spoken and written about Chin Peng and his attempts to return to Malaysia but he has managed to maintain a dignified demeanour throughout all this. All he wants is for the Malaysian government to honour its commitment to the 1989 Accord and allow him to at least visit Malaysia to pay his respect at his father and brother's graves. As some one who is related to the family, I know how much this means to him. A private visit is all he wants.

As you rightly point out James, historical facts cannot be distorted or disputed without flying in the face of reality and honesty. As Chin Peng's relative, I may not have been physically in the room of his birth, but there is no way he could have been born elsewhere other than in Perak. But such arguments are red-herrings. The truth is they want to renege on the terms of the Accord in order to appease a certain sector of Malaysian society. In doing this, they will be missing a golden opportunity to move a further step towards national reconciliation and improved racial harmony. Unlike South Africa and Northern Ireland, we in Malaysia are demonstrating that we are still very immature in our attitudes and approach to working together as a nation. While others have been able to work together in their Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) to promote national unity and harmony, we bicker over birth certificates and the colour of ICs while ignoring basic facts and treaty terms.

Chin Peng is today a frail old man who is harmless and has no desire to foment revolution or violence. True, he did lead a war against the colonial power of the day, and later against what were perceived as their proteges. But so did he also lead the only massed organised resistance against the invading Japanese, and was even decorated for his efforts. But all that is history. The truth today is that allowing Chin Peng today to fulfill his personal wishes will help bring us all nearer to a satisfactory closure. By being magnanimous, the government will lose nothing except win respect. By flouting the terms of an historic Accord and behaving so childishly, it can only attract pity and contempt.
