Obama presidency to face Russian challenges

Like it or otherwise, the Obama presidency in America will still have to confront with the geopolotical reality that resurgent Russia is now a self-respecting power that sees itself very differently from the self-depracating period in the immediate aftermath of the disintegration of the ex-USSR and the then political, economic and social disorders.

Unnoticed by many observers, the recent global economic trouble have hurt Russia far more than they have affected the US economy.
The ruble has fallen about 20% in value in the last 4 months - and that's just the official rate. Black market rates are even lower.

Russia has spent about 10 % of its currency reserves defending the ruble.

Russia's party is over, for the moment.
