My friend Dr. Lee Boon Chye fights in Gopeng
Another friend of mine Dr. Lee Boon Chye, a UK-trained and trilingual heart specialist practising in Ipoh, has just officially been appointed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat or PKR, to contest in Perak's parliamentary constituency of Gopeng in the coming general election. Just like Ipoh, Kampar and Batu Gajah, Gopeng is also well-known for its historical role as a tin-mining settlement in the Kinta Valley from the heydays of British Malaya to the mid-1980s when the tin industry and market collapsed structurally in the midst of a serious nationwide recession.

The tin market's disastrous collapse was to a large extent the work of Dr. Mahathir's attempt to manipulate the tin market through Maminco.
Much of the information was suppressed in Malaysia through a complete news blackout, and there was no internet and weblogs then -but it is well known in the international metals trading business.
It hurt the Kinta valley more than any other part of the country.
I always thought people in the Kinta valley who continued to support Barisan Najis were just plain dumb, after all the damage that BN has done to their livelihood.
