'Patriotic' Umno now seeks foreign assistance

According to the latest news report in malaysiakini, Umno now seeks legal opinion on its constitutional and legal quagmire in Perak from a team of Queen's Counsels (QC) in UK. Read in the light of Umno's own 'nationalist' claim, it undoubtedly reflects a deep-seated 'neo-colonial' mindset and a serious lack of confidence in the community of legal or constitutional experts in our own independent and sovereign country.

'Politeness' & honesty may diverge in real life

As Patrick Teoh has ridiculed before in (or is it rather 'with' a resounding, NIAMAH!!!)in his blog, what perjuangan umno?! Who mostly fought the Japs in Force 136?

Force 136 also did not fight much as it came into being after the tide was turned in the Battle of Midway. From the beginning of invasion to the end of occupation, it was the 10,000-strong CPM/ MPAJA that did most of the actual fighting on the ground.

wits: Chin Peng's homecoming case lawyers are all Malaysian citizens: Raja Aziz Addrus, Darshan Singh, Chan Kok Keong, Yau Wai Leong and Patrick Leong. Chin Peng has full confidence in his fellow Malaysians as lawyers and legal advisers. At 84, Chin Peng is still consistently more patriotic than Umno (old or new).

In my schooling days the MCP was regarded as the yucky and irredeemable bad guys but as time passed we discover who has really became the fascist goons incapable of reforming.

Umno has used the word, "communists" as the absolute curse word to demonize its enemies and anyone regarded as a threat for so long that it can no longer risk letting people get anywhere near to discovering the full story.

When it comes to the application of Chin Peng to return, it will mobilized some old melayu veterans to protests and demonstrate like as if they alone have lost life and limbs.

It(umno) believes in instigating absolute fanaticism and undying bias in feelings and never understanding of anything closer to the truth of things. An outfit of fascist demagogues.

given an opportunity, umno certainly would like to be facist but it inherently lacks the teutonic quality of brain and germanic efficiency. so, many conspiracies finally became comedies (like the now well-documented sperm-stained matteress without bed sheet - who on earth make love on a matrress without a bed sheet ? )

of course, Umno's 'decisive' and 'swift' coup in Perak, most likely copied without thinking from a Machiavellian plot in The Prince, now ends up in a constitutional and legal morass and opens up more political issues and problems than before.

I almost burst out laughing at the news, if not for the gravity of the Perak situation.

"Anti-penjajah" UMNO running to Penjajah Central for help to retain Perak...kakakakka...

Maybe the local opinion they sought was not favourable in its outcome.

I observed that the UMNO controlled media are now screaming "unfair" at the Perak Speaker's rulings, forgetting they are actually honoured by decades of heavy-handed rulings by BN-aligned speakers. UMNO will have an challenging time challenging it in court.

!!!!! Ini buktinya Umno tak percaya keupayaan penguam-penguam Melayu/Muslim !!!!

Well, most of us still remember Umno's media like Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian and Malay Mails once chided HINDRAF for appealing to the Queen of England to solve the Indian problem in Malaysia. Now, Umno itself is doing what HINDRAF once did. Umno has become HINDRAF. Hidup HINDRAF !

Selain daripada Chin Peng, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim pun tidak upah penguam-penguam Ratu England. DSAI percaya and hormat penguam-penguam tempatan yang semuanya anak tulen Malaysia. Penasihat-penasihat undang-undang Speaker Perak Sivakumar pun semuanya warga Malaysia. Hanya Umno yang tidak percayai keupayaan penguam-penguam negara sendiri.

Yes ! Umno is now doing what it accused HINDRAF of wrongdoing: running to England to seek help for Malaysian problems. Hidup HINDRAF !

Imagine the amount of medicine, blankets, bandage, clothes, food, drink, books, pencils, erasers and toys Muslim children in Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan could get from Malaysian contribution if Umno saves the money by not engaging QCs in Britain but only local lawyers and constitutional experts.

In M'sia, the loud so-called nationalists are the pain in the neck and the liberals are actually the hope.

Has it ever occured to anyone that the umno slogan of "Agama, Bangsa, Negara", is actually anti-plural society and mildly offensive per se?

My advice to the British Crown is: never allow your institution to be associated in any way with the Malayan Clowns because, from a historical pattern, they have the natural propensity to screw up everything among friends and foes even thought they really love you to be their political backer and you really love them as useful idiots.

Unfortunately, Rosemary, the present labour Govt. of England also seems to have lost its moral compass in its own way via its hopeless appeasement propensity. On wonders if it still stand up as a benchmark any more.

Under the governance of British Empire ( now is faded empire) , Perak was well managed

Why not Umno outsource the governance of Perak back to Britain

In orther word : Politic Outsourcing

Under the British, Malaya was well managed as the British were fair in their administration. There was no institutionalized discrimination and widespread promotion of elitism that went with officially promoted racism that follows. No darn fixing of what was not broke based on narrow and imposing partisan druthers.

Merdeka is like a sort of Russian Revolution completely usurped by Bolsheviks.

That the British Empire was fair to everyone is a myth concocted by colonial apologists and propagated mainly by some unthinking Chinese and Indian Anglophiles in Malaysia and Singapore. In British Malaya, even White Australian officers and soldiers were barred from entering exclusive clubs reserved for British aristocratic class. British colonial authorities allowed opium to be sold to Chinese labourers and samsu to Indian workers so that sale taxes could be levied to enrich the coffer in London. After sucking off a huge amount of resources, British failed to allocate sufficient manpower, tanks and aeroplanes to defend Malaya and Singapore in WWII. I feel shameful for my country's colonial past and I am always amused by the phenomenon of some younger Malaysians and Singaporeans seem to be more British than a real Briton.

wits: your comparison of Merdeka with the Bolshevik Revolution is totally wrong. Let me explain why:

1. The Bolshevik Revolution itself is, in my assessmenr, a great achievement because it uplifted Old Russia and turned it from a agricultural country into a scientific power; even thought the USSR is no more, the fact remains that feudalism, superstition and all the backward elements of human society has been abolished forever;

2. Merdeka or independence was a larger trend in post-WWII as the result of the rise of national consciousness in Asia and Africa following the fact that European (and British) powers were seen as paper tigers;

3. Malaya's problem does not stems from attainment of Merdeka from British colonialism but from the sad reality that the Progressives did not take power in 1948-1960, proclaim their version of Merdeka and follow the trend in India, Indonesia and China to wipe out backward elements such as feudalism and superstition; contrary to what Anglophiles like to believe, the British colonialists did encourage and support indigenous feudalism and superstition as legitimizing tools for their indirect rule and also to whip up anti-communist hysteria during the Cold War (later in the 1980s, fanatical Muslims were financed and trained by America and Britain in Afghanistan to fight communists - watch Rambo ?)

4. For all the structural and institutional problems in Malaysia, you must blame, first and foremost, the British colonialism which propped up all the irrational and backward powers to cover their indirect rule and economic expliotation.

5. I speak as a liberal historian from London.

3:52 AM
Blogger rc said...

To sum up my critique of Anglophiles in Malaysia, allow me to say that:

1. Merdeka was and is RIGHT;

2. The solution now is NOT to rewind the cloak of history back to British colonialism which was BAD;

3. The solution is to continue the political and ideological struggles to clear off feudalism and supertitions in your society (the Unfinished Businesses left over from 1945-1960) and to create a modern nation with a scientific and futuristic outlook;

4. There are things in Britain which are worth learnng like the English language but British colonalism, imperialism aristocratic arrogance and royal fairy tales are certainly historical rubblish that you must dump into your rubbish bins;

5. Be proud of your vernacular names, ancestors' homeland, colours of your skin, mother tongues, organic cultures of your ethnic community and stop dreaming of becoming a British boy or English girl by changing your names, whihten your skin or dying your hairs yellw or gold.

6. Thank you for your attention.

Rosemary, colonial Britain did not have the quota system based on race in tertiary education and while it reserved more places for malays in the public services, it did not do so by denying others. There was implicitly a meritocracy based system, not an implacably melanin based one. Malaya had a good educational system and legal system and was far ahead of many other colonial countries at the time of independence, in '57. We did not have that prickling consciousness of race acquired from even while in primary school.

We appreciate how the Commonwealth forces in the early sixties stood up for M'sia against the Indonesian Confrontation. At that time we truly believed in M'sia - it was the high point in that belief - afterwards it was a great continuous slide to disillusionment to this day.

You British have always been aristocratic, even at home in such ways involving exclusive clubs during that epoch. Opium was banned in Malaya some years before '57.

The exclusive clubs for rich nonwhites also exist(ed). The rich locals are today hooked on titles and accolades like opium here. The rich want titles to enhance their influence. And you know who deals in them here?

The French and Dutch were comparatively worse colonialists. Their legacies were/are consistently worse.

Rosemary, I used the Russian Revolution to draw the attention to the stealing of credit in achieving it, not intending to go into the depth that you did.

Leftist Liberals of Londonistan? Milibands' or Rowan's followers? Whoa!

4:22 AM
Blogger rc said...

1. For a long period of time, British Malaya did not have universities. So the question of meritocracy in tertiary education did not arise.

2. The British colonialists in those years did not face the problem of the massive empowerment of the masses: Malay masses were kept as peasants, Chinese masses were segregated in tin-mines and Indian masses were housed in estates. The colonialists had only to deal with a very small number of Malay aristocrats and English-educated Chinese and Indian 'running dogs'. Those masses who demanded more things in life were deported or banished to Indonesia, China or India. Revolutionaries were hanged or shot. Many were goaled for life in Kuala Lumour's Pudu Jail.

3. Not all the Brits are aristocratic as you imagine. Brits are not one monolith. My grandfather was a communist who joined the Great Strike in 1926. My grandmother once served as a nurse in the International Brigade in the Sapanish Civil War on the side of the Republican Government in Madrid against the Franco's Fascist forces; there are many ordinary and working Brits who dislike the Queens and the royalties in Britain. In Britain, communist paries are legal.

4. Opium was not only allowed to be sold in Malaya, it was sold directly to the Chinese in China by the royal charters British East Indian Company and when the Qing Government tried to ban the sale, Britih governmental forces attacked the Chinese people and government in the two Opium Wars;

5. That French and Dutch were worse colonialists in Indochina and Indonesia do not mean British colonialism is a good one. All colonialism and imperialism are wrong and derved to be opposed even by force as the Americans did in their War of Independence or the Vietnamese against the French or Indonesians against the Dutch;

6. Malaysia was formed to serve the strategic interest of gathering together its former colonies in Southeast Asia into one anti-China and anti-Soviet bloc; at that time there were British troops operating in Malaysia threatening the border security of China and Indonesia and also affronting the dignity of India as an non-aligned nation. So, all the major neighbours of the made-in-London 'Malaysia' were vigilant. Indonesia was only one of them. British and Commonwealth countries did not fight for Malaysians like you or your parents. They fought for their own Foward Defence Positions in Southeast Asia and possibly for some space for eventual re-colonisation.

Above all, UMNO and its rightwing brand of Malay ethno-nationalism, which you rightly hate now and which started May 13, was supported and blessed by British colonialism against the more anti-colonial and progressive parties like PKMM and CPM.
