America debates war strategy for Afghanistan

The fairly pressing question of how best for the United States to deal with the not-really-inspiring military situation in Afghanistan is being debated in Washington D.C. It seems that there is a partisan division on whether America should increase its troops for the protracted war. There are now reports indicating that the insurgency has spread fast, and it has affected 80 % of the territory of that mountainous country. Steve Coll's Ghost Wars remains the best introduction to the relevant prelude to the incessant and extremely violent conflicts in the region.
