India commemorates victory of republicanism

Today, India celebrates its annual Republic Day which commemorates the end of hereditary feudal powers and the triumph of republicanism in 1950. India, an ex-colony of the British Empire, gained its national independence in 1947. India celebrates its National Day on 15 August. On 28 May, 2008 (Wed), the last Hindu monarchy was ended in Nepal.
