Panyu girl scores first Olympic gold for China

Chen Xiexia, China's first gold medalist for Beijing Olympics, is a 25-year old woman who hails from Guangzhou's Panyu District. Chairman Mao was right when he said that "women can hold up half of the sky", and the liberation of women from feudal disempowerment is certainly one of the proudest achievements of the modern Chinese Revolution and also a remarkable contribution to the progressive enlargement of the universal realm of freedoms like the Western abolition of slavery.
