Modern Mandarin translation of the masterworks of Shakespeare and many other English writers has been in existence for several decades. The earliest attempt to translate Shakespeare's works into Chinese is now known to be in 1623 and the modern Mandarin edition of Hamlet was first published in 1921 by Tian Han who later composed the lyrics of the legendary and still well -known song, March Of The Volunteers.
