Journalism 101 on appearance & reality

No brothel owner or operator describes his business as brothel or center of prostitution.

Brothels are usually advertised as hotels, massage parlours or health or recreational centre. Of course, there are hotels, massage parlours or health or recreational centres that are not brothel. So, there is always the need to investigate and analyse empirically whether a particular hotel, massage parlour or health and recreational centre is, or is not, a brothel. No self-descriptive name or label should be taken at its face value.

One fundamental task of journalist is to find out the discrepancy between appearance and reality and not to be misled or duped by propaganda or advertising language and self-serving euphemisms.
