Hishamuddin Rais has written, in witty expressions of an organic intellectual, a very thought-provoking piece setting in true historical perspective the origins of Malaysia's 'independence', flag and anthem.

Communist Abdullah' s version of 'Emergency'

Exploring independence' s image-reality gaps

Sounds like a plot from a movie thriller I saw once.
You wake up one morning and find out that every thing you ever thought was your real-life is manufactured.
What do you do ?

I believe we would be splitting hair to debate as to when we should celebrate Merdeka.

I remember that when we expanded the SEAP games to SEA games, there was a debate as to whether we should retain SEAP or use SEA. I believe it was Ferry Sounneville (unsure of spelling) who said that the name has to reflect the new georgraphical composition of the countries. Then the question was asked if it should then be called the 1st SEA games. Ferry responded that we cannot forget history and the numbering should continue.

In the same vein, Malaysia would reflect the new composition while we also should not forget history.

Cheers.

kittykat46,

As I shall reveal, Agent Orange was first used NOT in Vietnam, but in Malaya during the 'Emergency'.
