Two historical, memorable Ipoh streets ...

Recently, I was back to Ipoh. I took some pictures of the streets with which I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. Above is Jalan Laxamana and the building was constructed in early 1930s by a very well-known tin-miner Foong Siong. On the left is the equally memorable Market Street in the Old Town where the shop lot of Modern Photo Studio, whose name is still clearly printed in a photograph of my grandmother taken in 1930s, is located.

The charming 'firebrand'

Suriani, the resistance heroine

Tortured by Kempetai

Sybil Kathigasu – new stories, same legend

Heroine Kathigasu books seized by JB Customs

Another 'Chin Peng book' held up

Merdeka history in new light
