Sharing books with young friends with a hope

My old friend Beng Ching's daughter Xiao Qing has just borrowed two books from me, namely William Shirer's The Rise & Fall Of The Third Reich and Edgar Snow's Red Star Over China. Shirer (1904-1993) and Snow (1905-1972) were two very legendary American journalists who turned historians. I always encourage younger friends to read quality classics on serious subjects with the hope that one day in the future, public debates in Malaysia would become more respectable as well as responsible in the eyes of the world, especially in the age of Internet.

I think the Chin Peng-basing orgy is organised to divert attention of the Malays from the fact that there is now a Malay-language blog named MATAMIN at http://matamin.blogspot.com/ which is the fatest growing blog in the Malaysian cyberspace.

Red Star Over China is a classic, telling the truth about China at that time but the US President chose to ignore reality and facts. Malaysia is going down this dangerous track.

I have not the chance to read the book yet, except the opening chapter in the internet but not allowed access tp read the whole book.

James,

There's another book by Han Suyin "The Morning Deluge". I wonder whether you've read that. Ironically, I got it from the Shah Alam library during the 80's. Fantastic book.
