Diplomats visiting local media

Foreign diplomats, especially the newly arrived ones, visiting local media is also a very normal and established practice all over the modern world. Malaysia is no exception. The purpose is essentially to establish and maintain friendly contacts and personal channels of cmmunication.

The visiting diplomats do not have to endorse the editorial policy of the media. Certainly, the host media organisation does not have to support the foreign policy of the country to which the visiting diplomats are attached.

This photograph shows the newly arrived British diplomat having a conversation with me and other senior editors of Sin Chew Jit Poh during her visit to our office in 1998.
