Later, I first met the grandmotherly Suriani Abdullah (Eng Ming Ching), a veteran communist who fought the Japanese occupation and British postwar re-colonisation.

She was once detained and tortured by the Japanese from 28 January, 1945 to 15 August, 1945. Her memoirs have now been completed.

Suriani is also the wife of CPM Chairman Abdullah CD.
