Remembering Makcik Salamah on 3/8 IWD

Today is the Internaional Women's Day (IWD) which has been traditionally celebrated worldwide.

When I asked my wife last evening what to blog to commemorate the IWD, her answer was unequivocal: let's remember Makcik Salamah (second from right), the quietly heroic woman who stood by Pakcik Said Zahari for 17 years while he was detained without trial in Singapore, and brought up all their children in Pakcik's long and enforced absence.

We still remember Makcik Salamah always made kopi-O for us while we visited Pakcik. Sometime, she also shared her personal and real-life experience with my wife while Pakcik and I talked about other topics.

Makcik Salamah is always an inspiration of faithfulness and fortitude to us.

Rest in peace, Makcik. We love and remember you forever.
