Malay classical literature in standard Chinese

A few days ago, I went to Petaling Street/Jalan Sultan area or Chinatown to meet a friend. After that I went to a Chinese bookshop ronda-ronda and discovered the latest Chinese-language edition of Sejarah Melayu and Hikayat Hang Tuah published in China. I was attracted by these two books because I read them before in Bahasa Melaysia when I was in Form 5 to prepare for SPM and it was from these two books that I learned to use classical Malay words like hatta and maka. I was told that the Chinese-language edition of these two Malay classics had already existed some 50 years ago in Singapore and the present ones are only the more linguistically polished products with better cover designs and paper quality.

If you are interested in purchasing the books, you can contact Xuelin Bookshop at 45-A, Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin, 50050 Kuala Lumpur; Tel/Fax: (603) - 2031 3195. It also maintains a website for online purchase at http://www.xuelin.com.my/
