Amazing Grace' s amazing story now in movie
Ah May, who sells CDs/VCDs/DVDs in downtown Kuala Lumpur and who have known my likes and dislikes for many years by now, called yesterday and drew my attention to a new movie Amazing Grace.

William Wilberforce's lifelong campaign to abolish slavery is certainly a great inspirational story.
At the time slavery was not only perfectly legal , it was a big, profitable business in British territories and elsewhere. He went about it doggedly, year after year, chipping away at the slave trade until total abolition in British controlled land and ships.
Not only that, the laws he pushed through made it an offense for British citizens and companies to be aiding or engaging in the slave trade anywhere in the world. As Britain was the leading economic power in the world at the time, that had a major impact.
He also had a major influence on the later campaign against slavery in the US.
I think the movie isn't released in Malaysia, but there's always your friendly neighbourhood VCD dealer...
just like opium which was still consumed by some old Chinese working class men in Ipoh up till early 1970s.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie especially the clever usage of the English language in the parliamentary debates. If not for your recommendations, I would surely have miss a great movie. Thanks James and any other recommendations? - Steven Tan
