To answer the question of Bernice Chang: the anthem played during the closing ceremony of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) last Sunday was The Internationale , whose lyric was first written by French socialist poet Eugène Pottier in 1871 and music composed by Pierre Degeyter in 1888 to uplift the spirit of the working people's movements in Europe after the fall of the Paris Commune.

Wah Leng Lui on the magazine cover, eh.

I've always had this prejudice, I guess, that the PLA ladies were tough, mean and ugly....not true...or maybe she's just a model dressed up in the uniform.

Ah...the Dragon Lady controversy. About the only time the MCA and DAP ladies were united in disagreeing with the proposal for housemaids from China.

At one point few years ago, I was making frequent trips to Guangzhou as I was overseeing a project that involved both the Malaysia and China operations. As well as nighttime conference phone calls involving US, China and Malaysia staff.

I never quite managed to convince my wife that there wasn't a Little Dragon Lady somewhere in Guangzhou...
