Politics of Indonesia in historical perspective

Adam Schwarz's A Nation in Waiting - Indonesia's Search for Stability (Singapore, Talisman, 2004) remains, until now, my most used and very useful English-language general reference book on the political culture, institutions, personalities, dynamic and process of Indonesia discoursed with solid facts and figures from a historical perspective. Schwarz's assessment, in the Introduction to the Third Impression, of the three post-Suharto presidents in Indonesia, namely B.J. Habibie, Abdurrahman Wahid and Megawati Sukarnoputri, is fairly insightful.
