Anwar speaks in S'pore on Islam & democracy

In a luncheon lecture to the Regional Outlook Forum organised by the Institute of South East Asian Studies in Singapore, Malaysia's ex-DPM Anwar Ibrahim reportedly argued and opined that Islam is compatible with democracy. Anwar has also been reported as chiding Malaysia's Umno-dominated Barisan Nasional (BN) government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for its "state-sponsored Muslim puritanism".
