Thirty-third anniversary of first 9/11 tragedy
Lucia, my Chilean Australian friend from Monash days in the 1980s, visited Kuala Lumpur recently. After we prayed for the souls of her late parents (who employed me as a cleaner in their factory during one summer), we had an enjoyable evening boozing session in one of the restaurants in Petaling Street.
We remembered her father, an ex-officer of the late President Salvador Allende's Popular Unity government (1970-1973), and mother, a campaign worker for Allende (left) in the 1970 presidential election, showing us the torture-inflicted scars on their bodies and relating to us how the presidential palace was attacked by rightwing troops and fascist thugs on 11 September 1973.
